The Bihar Tuberculosis Association has been working with creditable track records by facilitating various activities on prevention, control & cure of TB. Though the association has been mainly foucsing on health education & is consistently engaged in awareness drive, It has done commendable job in the field of TB management by organizing Seminars, workshops, Health check up & TB detection camps both in rural areas & urban – slums and poor colonies. The Association has drown up a CALENDER of activities which are being carried out vigorously.
January- Membership drive- Enroll new members.
February- Identification of slum areas in and around the city. Observance of Anti-TB week from 17th to 23rd Feb. The week long programme includes –public meeting, Mass awareness, Intensive Health Education Programmes, Publication of TB related articles in newspapers, distribution of TB related materials, screening of TB films and arranging talks through electronic media. etc.
March- Convening the meeting of Executive Committee followed by the General Body meeting- closing of accounts.
On 22nd march- a health camp at Dhanarua ( Dist-. Patna ) in collaboration with Mangalam Bihar.
24th march- observance of World TB Day.
April- Preparation for audit of accounts of the Association.
May- Educate people- to launch a TB Education Week, visit Schools, Workplaces etc
June- 3rd July-Health check up – cum- awareness camp at Bettiah ( dist. West Champararan ) in collaboration with Dr. Manoj Pandey Memorial Trust.
August- Organize workshop for Health workers and social activist.
September- Health check up camps / Mass Vaccination Programmes for children including B.C.G.
October- Inauguration of TB Seal Campaign. Counseling & updating session for Chest Phisicians.
November- Health camps at Keota ( dist. Samastipur ) in collaboration with Swati Sewa Samiti, a local NGO.
Vigorous TB Seal sale drive.
December- Health camp at Koilwar (dist.-Bhojpur) in collaboration with Munsi Shamsher Jang Bahadur Memorial Trust.
Follow up of intensive health education drive & to invite celebrities, patients and health providers to a high profile media events.
Activities in The Year 2003-04
During the period series of awareness programmes coupled with Seminars / Workshops were organized where right from first–aid knowledge the symptom, prevention and cure of infectious diseases were discussed. The year witnessed launching of special awareness campaign for school children in and around Patna.
A brief account of the activities are given here under:
1. Health check up camp was organized at Rajendra Nagar slum on 27th April,03 to identify cases of tuberculosis. 280 people were examined and suspected cases were referred to Yakshma Nidan Kendra / DOTS Centers for further investigation and treatment.
2. On 21st June,03 a seminar on TB and AIDS was held at Patna. It was attended by social activists, doctors and NGO members.
3. In collaboration with Dr. Manoj Pandey Memorial Trust, two Health camps were organized at Sugauli ( dist.- East Champaran ) & Bettiah ( dist. West Champaran ) respectively on 2nd & 3th July03. On the occasion , representative 0f Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Handicapped, Patna and paramedical staff of the Directorate of Health Services ,Govt. of India, Patna Region also rendered their services for rehabilitation assistance to handicapped and for detection of cases of Maleria and Kalazar. District TB officer, Bettiah also helped in screening TB cases.
4. In the series of special awareness campaign for school children, a team of doctors together-with the office bearers of the Association visited the following schools on different dates. The motive was to educate the coming generation about different aspect of tubeculosis and to advise them to work for spreading awareness amongst the family members and the neighbours.

5. 2nd October,03 – The 54th TB seal inaugural function and workshop on " TB Management in Rural Areas" on 2nd Oct,03 was attended by doctors, paramedicals, social activists and representatives of varios Gram Panchayats.
6. The Association in collaboration with Munshi Shamsher Jang Bahadur Memorial Society organized a mega Health Camp at Koilwar ( dist.- Bhojpur ) on 21st December,03. 560 people were examined. Medicines, publicity materials were distributed and film on TB was screened.
7. A Health check-up –cum awareness camp was held jointly under the aegis of the Bihar TB Association and Swasti Sewa Samiti at Dalsig -sarai ( dist.- Samastipur ) on 17th January,04. 435 persons were examined. Medicines, handbills / pamphlets were distributed and video film on TB was screened.

9. Health Camp at Dhanarua ( dist. – Patna )- 22nd March,04 --. A Health Camp was organized at village-Dhanarua ( dist. – Patna )- in collaboration with Gayatri Sewa Sansthan on 22nd March,04 in the premises of Shymta Devi Girls High School. About 380 people were examined. Cases of Maleria and Kalazar were detected with the help of Regional Directorate of Health Services Govt. of India, Patna Region.
10. World TB Day - 24th March,04. To mark the World TB Day on 24th March’04., a workshop was organized at Patna. The involvement of NGO in RNTCP was discussed and early expansion of DOTS Center in remote areas was stressed.
Activities in the year 2004-05
The year assumes significance for the Association as it received "Bhai Mohan Singh Cup" for general activities and achievements by the Tuberculosis Association of India, New Delhi. It signifies our collective endeavours and sincere involvement in promoting and intensifying anti –TB programme in the state.
Following are given, in brief, an account of the activities of and performances of the Association during the year 2004-05:
1. Health check-up –cum awareness camp was organized on April,04 at Harizan toli, East Mandiri, Patna. On the occasion 172 people were examined. Handbills / Leaflets containing TB related educative materials were distributed and film on TB was screened.
2. A seminar on "Partnership of social workers in fight against TB- AIDS" was held on 6th June,04 in which the role of NGO and social workers as also the threat posed by co-infection of HIV-Tb was discussed.
3. The Association in collaboration with Dr. Manoj Pandey Memorial Trust organized a Health Camp at Bettiah ( dist. West Champaran ) on 3rd July,’04 where 360 people received free medical check –up and advice. On the occasion the representative of Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Handicapped ,Patna as well as a team of paramedical from Regional Directorate of Health Services, Govt. of India, Patna Region participated actively .Dist. TB officer, Bettiah also assisted in detection of cases of TB.
4. 55th TB seal compaign – inaugural function was arranged on 3rd October,04, where besides the others the patients receiving free treatment at Yakshma Nidan Kendra ( A unit of Association ) were also invited to share each – other experience.
5. A Health camp was held at village Keota ( dist. Samastipur ) in collaboration with Swasti Seva Samiti on 5th january,05 where 235 persons were examined. A TB detection unit was also functioning there and suspected cases were referred to the DOTS centers for further investigation and treatment. On the occasion health awareness materials were distributed and film on TB was screened.
6. Anti - TB Week Celebration – 17th to 23rd Feb,05
During the week long celebration various programmes were organized mainly focusing on mass awareness. Banners with anti –TB slogans were displayed and awareness camp were organized at various places. Handbills / leaflets containing TB related materials were distributed and film on TB was screened.
7. The Association in collaboration with Munshi Samsher Jang Bahadur Memorial Society organized a helth check-up-cum awareness camp at Koilwar ( dist.- Bhojpur ) on 20th march,05. VRS representatives and staff of the Regional Health Directorate both joined hands with the Association in making it success.
8. On 22th march,05, a Health Camp was organized at Shymta Devi Girls High School, Dhanarua ( dist.- Patna ) in collaboration with Mangalam Bihar where large number of people were examined by the visiting doctors. On this occasion medicines and educative materials were distributed.
9. World TB Day Celeberation – 24th march,’05
To mark World TB Day’05, a seminar was organized on the theme endorsed by WHO. The participants were doctors, health workers, social activists. The of role health workers and TB care providers were highlighted.
10. Bhia Mohan Singh Cup Award.
March-31st, 2005 witnessed an exciting landmark event at New Delhi: the presentation of "Bhia Mohan Singh Cup Award" to the Bihar TB Association for general activities and achievement by the Tuberculosis Association of India . This award holds special significance for this prganization because it signifies recognition of our sincere endeavours by the Central Body. (Sri U. N. 11. Tuberculosis Detection and Treatment camps
The Bihar Tuberculosis Association in collaboration with a USA based social organisation “THE PRAJNOPAYA FOUNDATION ” will organise health camps especially for identification and meditation of TB cases at Rajgir, Nalanda and Vaishali in between 25th to 28th of March 2006. Mr. Tenzin LS Priyadarshi , Director of the Prajnopaya foundation has agreed to collaborate and partner with the association on this noble Tubercuiosis treatment and preventation project and has consented to provide funds for conducting successful and beneficial camps for the people living in the area s of Rajgir, Nalanda and Vaishali. We would begin with the areas where the DOTS programme is having difficulties to reach and is dominated by poor and slum – dwellers having more TB cases livelihood and malnutrition.
